Tian Long Li (China)

Tian Long Li is a jazz harmonica player from South China. He was born in Nan Chang in 1987. He previously studied abstract art from 2004 to 2008, specialising in oil painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chong Qing. At the age of 20, he was bitten by the blues bug and began to teach himself to play the harmonica. He absorbed influences from blues greats such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, James Cotton and many more.

The cultural festival ‘China and Germany on the move together’ gave Tian Long Li the opportunity to travel to Germany to play concerts and begin his first musical training at the Hohner Conservatory in Trossingen in 2011. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Performance at the Jazz and Rock Schools in Freiburg from 2012 to 2017 and from 2017 to 2021 he completed two Masters in Performance and Pedagogy with lecturers Domenic Landolf, Hans Feigenwinter and Matthieu Michel at the Jazzcampus in Basel. He also took private lessons from the French harmonica virtuoso Olivier Ker Ourio.

Tian Long Li's music is stylistically wide-ranging and includes not only jazz, but also blues, world music and pop.
